Enough has been written about hormone replacemene therapy and its effects in human beings. In America people are given hormone treatment for all kinds of sicknesses. Steroids are known to give relief to patients and quick recovery in most cases. But this also has side effects.
Menopause is a normal change in a woman’s life when her period stops. That’s why some people call menopause “the change of life”. During menopause a woman’s body slowly produces less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This often happens between the ages of 45 and 55 years old. A woman has reached menopause when she has not had a period for 12 months in a row.
Menopause HRT (menopause hormone replacement therapy) is given to women when they are in severe distress due to menopause. It is a normal part of aging. In the years before and during menopause, the levels of female hormones are erratic. This can cause symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Some women take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to relieve these symptoms. It is believed that HRT also protects against osteoporosis.
However, HRT also has risks. It increases the risk of breast cancer, heart diseases and paralytic stroke. Certain types of HRT have a higher risk, and each woman is different, so the effect also varies from individual to individual. You need to discuss the risks and what is best for you with your health care provider. If and when you decide to take HRT, take the lowest dose that helps and for the shortest time required. Taking hormones should be re-evaluated every six months.
Hormone therapy does not prevent memory loss or Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have not shown that hormone therapy prevents aging and wrinkles or increases sex drive. The effect is the same for all hormone products for menopause, such as pills, patches, vaginal creams or gels.
Some feel that instead of going in for hormone therapy its better to use natural and herbal treatments. Soy is the major plant edible food that helps during menopause. Tofu and dong quai are helpful and reduce the stress. Herbal tea, ginseng and evening primrose oil reduce the distress caused during menopause. But if the symptoms are severe then HRT is the best method to relieve your stress.
How there are more choices than HRT on the market and it is best to look into the alternative forms of treatment to see if they are right for you.
