Herbal remedies for Menopause symptoms

When a woman crosses 35 years of age premenopausal symptoms start occurring in her. Sleeplessness, excess bleeding during menstruation, hot flushes and dry vagina to name a few. These occur in a mild way and so don’t need medication. Hormone therapy is given only when the symptoms are severe. You can go in for herbal and natural remedies like change of diet, with less salt, sugar and avoid smoking and drinking alcohol and so on. Exercise is another natural remedy for weight gain. Although herbal remedies for menopause products are not recognized by the US government in Germany these herbal products do have insurance.

There are some products that seem to help some women. Soy contains phytoestrogens (estrogen-like substances from a plant). But, there is no proof that soy–or other sources of phytoestrogens–really do relieve hot flashes. And the risks of taking soy, especially the pills and powders, are not known. You can get soy from foods too. Soy food products include tofu, tempeh, soy milk, and soy nuts. These soy products are more likely to work on mild hot flashes. Do consult your physician before taking any of the herbal products.

It is believed that black cohosh reduces hot flushes and night sweats for some women. St. John’s Wort and chasteberry may help some women with depressed mood. If you are already on anti depressants then this won’t work. This is to treat mild cases. Ginseng, dong quai, evening primrose oil, and red clover products all have a positive effect on menopausal symptoms. These products have been in use for a long time and tested for menopause. They are safe and do not have side effects. During pre menopause Dong Quai, nurtures the uterine organs, promotes their regular function and regulates the menstrual cycle.

Wild yam and valerian root are also some of the herbal remedies for menopause. Avoid coffee and tea. If you can’t do without a cup then switch to herbal tea. Though there are no conclusive results that these herbal remedies work, it does help in reducing some of the stress created due to menopause.

The average age for a woman’s final period is 51, but it can occur as early as age 40 and as late as age 60 years also. Each woman’s experience with menopause is unique. Some women experience very few changes during this time, while others go through noticeable symptoms.

The more you know about menopause, the better prepared you will be to manage any   problems that might come your way.
